3. Occlusal Plane Analysis

Among the causes of malocclusion, the occlusal plane is mainly emphasized as a dental factor.

The occlusal planes mainly used in conventional orthodontics and MEAW orthodontics were compared.

The vertical height of the maxillary anterior tooth, the maxillary occlusal plane,

and the posterior occlusal plane, which are mainly emphasized in the MEAW treatment, are described.

In particular, the posterior occlusal plane is highly related to Class II and Class III malocclusions,

and affects the vertical position of the mandible.

There are two methods in the orthodontic treatments, maintaining the occlusal plane and changing it.

Maintaining the occlusal plane is relatively easy. On the other hand, there are many things to consider

when changing the occlusal plane, such as whether to rotate clockwise or counterclockwise.

It should be able to predict possible changes of the aesthetics, skeleton, and teeth.

In particular, it is necessary to understand the occlusal plane because it can be changed through

various orthodontic appliances used in adolescence.

Therefore, the analysis and evaluation of skeletal patterns and occlusal plane will be the basis for

customized orthodontic treatment.
